Set the order
Top to bottom is how they’ll come together.
All together now.
From scattered to sorted
One PDF.
Everything in order.
Put a cover letter before your résumé, collect a month’s receipts, or bring several scanned chapters together. Each file’s pages stay in their original order; you decide which document comes first.
How to merge PDF files
- Choose at least two PDFs, or drop them into the box.
- Use the up and down arrows to arrange the files. You can add more or remove a file before merging.
- Choose a filename, select Merge PDFs, then download your combined document.
Your documents stay with you
The merge happens in your browser. Your PDFs are not uploaded to Plainly. Closing or reloading the page clears the selection, so download your result before leaving.
What this tool preserves
Pages are copied without turning them into images or deliberately compressing their contents. Text, images, page sizes, and rotations are retained. Document-level extras such as bookmarks and attachments are not carried across.
A few good questions
About PDF merge
Is PDF merge free?
Yes. Merge and download without creating an account, paying, or adding a watermark. There is no daily usage quota.
Are my PDFs uploaded anywhere?
No. The PDF engine runs locally in your browser. We receive neither your selected documents nor the merged file.
How many PDFs can I combine?
Combine up to 20 files, with a total input size of 50 MB and up to 500 pages. Large or complex PDFs can still exceed a device’s available memory. If processing fails, try a smaller batch. You can cancel a running operation.
Will merging reduce image or text quality?
This tool copies the original pages rather than taking screenshots or recompressing their images. It does not try to make the file smaller. Always open the result and check it before sharing.
Can I merge protected, signed, or fillable PDFs?
Password-protected PDFs need an unlocked copy first. Interactive forms and detected digital signatures are not supported: export a flat copy if you only need the visible pages. Merging does not preserve or validate digital signatures, even if a signature is still visible on a page.
Can I use this on my phone?
Yes, in a modern browser that supports background workers. Select PDFs from your phone’s file picker and use the arrows to set their order. Smaller batches work best on devices with less memory.
