Online QR code generator

A link. A little square.
Make it easy to open on another screen.

Example QR code for https://example.com.

Scan before sharing

Example for https://example.com. Generate a code to enable downloading.

Free to use. Your content stays in this tab. The downloaded code contains your content, so anyone who scans it can read it.

From a link
to a QR code.

Paste a complete website address or type some text, choose your image size, then select Generate QR code. Scan the preview with a phone to check it and select Download PNG to save it. This tool makes a static QR code: the address or text is stored directly in the pattern.

Use the full website address

Start a website link with https://, such as https://example.com/contact. Without a complete address, a scanning app may treat the content as text instead of opening a website. Check the destination and spelling before printing.

Shorter content makes a simpler code

A long address or message needs a denser pattern. Keep the content short when possible, and use the larger download size for dense codes. This tool accepts up to 2,331 UTF-8 bytes; an emoji or accented character may use more than one byte.

Keep the white border

The image includes a clear white border, called the quiet zone, around the pattern. Keep that border intact when placing the code on a poster, label, menu, or document. Use a flat background and avoid stretching or cropping the image. Test a code at its final printed size and intended viewing distance.

Your content.
Directly encoded.

No redirect service or expiry timer

Plainly does not replace your address with a tracking link. The QR pattern has no expiry timer, but a linked website can still move, expire, or stop working. A static code cannot be edited after you share it. To change the content, generate a new code and replace the old image.

A QR code does not make a link safe

Check the destination before sharing or opening it. A QR code is another way to carry a link or message, not a verification of the destination. Avoid putting passwords, access tokens, or other private details in a code you plan to distribute.

How the image is made

The tool uses the qrcode encoding library with black squares on a white background and medium error correction. There are no logos, colors, or decorations that could obscure the pattern. Encoding runs in your browser without sending the content to a server.

Good questions.
Straight answers.

Is this online QR code generator free?

Yes. You can generate a code and download its PNG without creating an account.

Can I create a QR code for plain text?

Yes. Enter your text in the same field. A scanner will show the encoded text rather than automatically opening a website.

Will my QR code expire?

The static pattern does not expire. If it points to a website, the website must remain available. Plainly does not host the destination or provide a redirect.

Can I change the link after downloading?

No. The content is built into the image. Generate and share a new QR code when you need a different address or message.

Why does my QR code not scan?

Try better lighting, a larger image, or shorter content. Make sure the full white border remains visible and the image is sharp. Test the original PNG as well as the final printed or displayed version.

Does Plainly save my link or text?

No. This tool does not upload your input or save it to website storage. Reloading restores the example.
